Myrtle is quite happy being purple. Until one day she has an encounter that makes her question whether being purple is a bad thing. She realizes for the first time that she and her family are the only purple turtles she’s seen around the pond.
There are many books about respecting differences—in yourself and others. What I particularly liked about Myrtle the Purple Turtle is that author Cynthia Reyes captures accurately how one feels when they are the target of discrimination. Especially a child who experiences it for the first time. Your child will also learn some facts about turtles.
Myrtle the Purple Turtle is a great way to start a conversation with your child about diversity and respecting themselves and others. Highly recommend.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
