Lisa White – Author Interview

Lisa White is the author of the Did You Know? series. I recently reviewed two books in the series — Love-light and Forevermore. I think Ms. White’s series is special. In her exclusive Gittle interview, Ms. White discusses hope, love, and checking in with her future self.

Tell us 3 strange and wonderful things about you.

  1. When I was nineteen I worked in Germany through an exchange program.
  2. I became engaged to my future husband two weeks after meeting him.
  3. My daughter and I “do” dog voices.  Well, it’s pretty much one voice that we use for any animal. We think we’re pretty hysterical, but people just really humor us!

Any advice for writers thinking about self-publishing a children’s picture book? Having never done anything like this before and not being a tech person at all, I wanted the overall support that a self-publishing company could provide.  Do your research, compare prices and packages, and have a lot of patience for the back and forth that it takes to create a book in this fashion.

What was a defining moment in your life? In January of 2019 after experiencing some big changes in my life, I walked through the house wondering out loud what was next in line for me. Within a short time, the idea for the book series materialized in my mind.  I knew the series title, the first lines of the first book, that it would be in rhyme scheme, and who the illustrator was meant to be.  Voilà!

If you could wake up tomorrow as someone else, who would it be? I would want to check in with my future self to see how my life evolved.  No pressure there, right?

Lisa White’s favorite children’s books — she still has them!
What is your favorite children’s book? My children are now grown, but Richard Scarry’s Mr. Frumble’s Bedtime Stories and Jez Alborough’s Where’s My Teddy? were two of our favorites to read before going to bed. And I still have them!

What gives you hope? Our ability to choose love gives me hope.  With self love, especially, so much more happiness and joy is possible.

Lisa White says, “This is Litte Me, the heart and soul of my books.”
