We all know Grandmas are special. They bake cookies, babysit our kids, knit sweaters, help us be better parents…all kinds of wonderful things.
Remember how you felt about your Grandma when you were a child? I sure do remember my Grandma. I miss her. Always a kind word, always supportive. No matter what crazy thing I did. I knew I could tell her anything and she would love me no matter what. Did you feel that way, too?
Everyone loves a homemade gift. But, I think Grandmas appreciate them most of all. Look, I’m not a “crafty” person. Even if you are, not everyone has the time to create a homemade gift. I thought how great it would be for families to give Grandma something really special. A gift that shows her how much they appreciate her and everything she does. A greeting card that was more than just a card. How about a whole book? But, not just any book. And not just something you sign your name to. But a keepsake.
I wrote the poem In Grandma’s Arms while holding my grandson as he napped. You know when babies are sleeping and they look like angels? I held him tight in my left arm and typed the words in my iPhone with my right thumb!
The poem was illustrated by two different artists: Carlos Brito and Karissa Hunter. Then, I created a “greeting book.” The loving poem which is a tribute to Grandmas everywhere, beautiful illustrations that any Grandma will love, and seven pages that the family can personalize. That means every greeting book is a keepsake — a one-of-a-kind gift to be treasured for years to come.
Can you picture it? The family sitting together and thinking about what makes Grandma so special. Creating a Book of Love just for her. There is no doubt that she will love the greeting book you create. But, the family will feel closer when they create this keepsake together.
Soon there will be a whole line of the Book of Love for Grandma. Even one in Spanish! For now, A Book of Love for Grandma: A Greeting Book From a Grandson is available. My friend’s two children — a boy and a girl — gave this one to their Grandma. This version features the illustrations of award-winning Brazilian artist Carlos Brito.

By the way, here’s what happened when my friend’s children — a 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl — gave their Grandma the Book of Love:
“My mom was having a bad morning and she was still in her pajama’s and her hair wasn’t brushed. She bawled when she read it. It totally turned her morning around! She hugged me and the kids for a long time and said it meant the world to her.”
— Sara Dean, Mother of a 10-year-old boy & 6-year-old girl who personalized the Book of Love for their Grandma
