  • […] The winners get several things including, frankly, the pride that comes with another indie-publisher recognizing your work. This year, I’m providing all 10 winners with some paid social media advertising and a commitment to buy at least one copy of everyone’s book (even if you submit the hard copy). See all the benefits of being on The Gittle List and review the submission guidelines. […]

  • I do like the sound of this competition, so many others i look at are either already won and posted, or too big for a newbie like myself to enter.
I also have a blog site for helping writers, would you consider a guest blog request.

  • This seems like a cool contest. Not sure now but I may enter. My 1st 2 books are self published with Inspiring Voices but I am looking for an agent now before I publish any more. I’ve found there is little to no money in self publishing. If you’re not famous or rich already, you are just beating a dead horse. I have 5 kids and we read a lot. There are so many books we get in stores and libraries which lack quality writing. Most have good illustrations but some even lack that. To me, the story should be more important but all companies are worried about is selling a picture.

    • Hi, Jeremy! The reality is that very few children’s book authors make a lot of money. The other reality is that there are a lot of awful books published — both traditionally and self-published. My contest aims to uncover the gems. And there are many self -published books that are excellent.

When I evaluate a book, story is the first consideration, but it must be well-supported by the illustrations. These are, after all, picture books. The story and the illustrations should have a symbiotic relationship.

Whether you take the traditionally published path in the future is irrelevant to the contest. Just as long as the book you enter is self-published and meets the other criteria.

      Thank you for your comments!

  • Hi there,

I would like to submit my book again (I submitted last year). Can I do that? Thank you so much,
    Michele

    • Hi, Michele! I emailed you directly, but I wanted to comment here to let others know that, yes, you can resubmit a book that you entered in previous years’ contest. I’ve had one author do that this year. Thank you for the question! Hope to see you again this year. -Aviva
